Associate Professor Andrew Choong is a Consultant, vascular and endovascular surgeon at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore and an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
He graduated from the Imperial College School of Medicine at St Mary’s, London, UK in 2003. He began higher vascular surgical training in 2008 as part of the St Mary’s North West Thames rotation of the London Deanery and Postgraduate School of Surgery. He further developed his endovascular skills as a fellow at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Queensland, Australia and has undergone super-specialised training in complex thoracoabdominal open, hybrid and endovascular aortic surgery during his time at the Imperial Vascular Unit at St Mary’s Hospital, London, UK. In 2014, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training in the UK.
Prior to joining NUHCS, he was a Consultant in vascular and endovascular surgery at King’s College Hospital, London, UK. He also previously held posts as both an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland, Australia and a Senior Lecturer at Griffith University, Queensland, Australia before his appointment as an Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore.
He has won multiple awards including the HJ Windsor prize from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Professor William Burnett Research Fellowship from the University of Queensland. In 2014, by examination, he was awarded the Fellowship of the European Board of Vascular Surgery with Honours, for the highest overall examination performance of all candidates.
Whilst A/Prof Andrew Choong is committed to clinical excellence and patient care above all else, he is also an active clinical researcher and supervisor with over 80 publications (peer reviewed journals, book chapters and invited articles) and over 100 presentations at international conferences. He is a core faculty for the NUHS Research Residency Programme and also a dedicated clinical teacher. Previously a regular faculty member of the London Postgraduate School of Surgery, he regularly taught all aspects of vascular and endovascular surgery to London core and higher surgical trainees. His teaching achievements have been recognised by the award of Membership of the Faculty of Surgical Training of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
