Dr Clarissa Cheng is a senior consultant for Vitreoretinal and Medical Retina services in the NHG Eye Institute, Tan Tock Seng Hospital Singapore.    She is also a visiting consultant for Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and serves as on the advisory board for pioneering the retina service for Woodlands Health Campus Hospital.    She serves as deputy in charge for Pre-operative Assessment, Counselling and Evaluation and established the nurse led Intravitreal injection service in TTSH Ophthalmology.

Dr Cheng graduated with distinctions in her bachelors of medicine and surgery at the prestigious St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London in 2007.   She then completed her ophthalmology training in Singapore with a Masters of Medicine (Ophthalmology) and was recognised as a Fellow in both the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, as well as, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom in 2015.   She was then awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan to pursue further subspecialty training in vitreoretina at the prestigious Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2017.

Her specialities would include the assessment and management of cataract, diabetic eye disease, age related macular degeneration, retinal detachments, retinal vascular diseases, glaucoma and myopia. In addition, she has extensive experience in complex vitreoretina surgeries including 27 gauge vitrectomy, combination scleral buckling with vitrectomy procedures, macular surgeries for epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and macular haemorhhage, retinal detachment repair surgery, scleral fixation of intraocular lenses, and ocular trauma.

Dr Cheng’s other areas of interest include education of the next generation of doctors. She was awarded the Top Teacher award as a registrar in 2014 and is a clinical lecturer and content expert to the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS), Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU), and Singapore Polytechnic.
