Adjunct A/Prof Diarmuid Murphy graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his basic Surgical Training and Advanced Surgical Training in Orthopaedic Surgery in Ireland. During this time, he represented Irish Higher Surgical Trainees at a National level and was the Irish Orthopaedic representative on the Federation of Orthopaedic Trainees in Europe. He completed his fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery and joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore in 2010.
Adj A/Prof Murphy is a Senior Consultant of the Musculoskeletal Trauma Division. His specialist areas of interest are the treatment of complex intra-articular fractures, involving both upper and lower limbs, the treatment of complications of fractures, including deformity and infection and treating fractures using minimally invasive surgical techniques. He also performs hip and knee arthroplasty surgery. Adj A/Prof Murphy is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and is a clinical tutor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to his clinical work, he has also been involved in Value Driven Health Care to Singapore by the hospital senior leadership. He was appointed Chief Value Officer for National University Hospital in 2018 and Group Chief Value Officer for NUHS in 2019. He heads up a dedicated team that oversees and collects data on the quality of care and costs of care for specific medical and surgical conditions.
