Dr Gwee Kok Ann, MBBS, FAMS (Gastroenterology), FRCP, PhD, practices at Gleneagles Hospital. He obtained his medical degree from National University of Singapore in 1985, completed his gastroenterology training at National University Hospital, Singapore, undertook further training in UK and Canada, and was awarded a PhD from University of Sheffield for his thesis on Post-infectious IBS.
He is a leading authority on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and constipation, being the lead author of position papers on IBS, use of probiotics for digestive disorders, dyspepsia and constipation. He was a member of the Rome Committee that publishes international guidelines for research and management of functional GI disorders, past president of the IBS Support Group (a patient self-help group), the ANMA (an Asian expert panel organisation dedicated to the science and practice of neurogastroenterology and motility), and recipient of the Rome Foundation Research Award 2014.
Dr Gwee is also Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. Professor Gwee has international publications on the role of probiotics in clinical management, post-infectious IBS, the roles of melatonin, sleep disturbance and gluten sensitivity in IBS, endoscopic evaluation of gastro-esophageal reflux disease, and the effect of Helicobacter pylori treatment in dyspepsia. In addition to the management of stomach, liver and bowel disorders, Dr Gwee provides expertise in the management of dyspepsia, indigestion, gas related complaints, bowel habit training and dietary management of food intolerance, refractory GERD and H pylori infection, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. His specific hepatology interests are the management of fatty liver and hepatitis E.
