Dr Kelvin Chua is a Senior Consultant with The Heart and Vascular Centre who is predominantly based at Gleneagles Medical Centre and Mount Elizabeth Novena Medical Centre. He specializes in arrhythmia care in the field of electrophysiology and pacing with key interests in sudden cardiac death, ablations of complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, use of novel pacing and ablation strategies including conduction system pacing, ultra-high-density mapping, cryoablation and pulse-field ablation.
Dr Chua graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 2006. He went on to obtain the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom) as well as the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) in 2011 and the Certificate of Specialist Accreditation (Cardiology) in 2014.
Dr Chua pursued his subspeciality clinical fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, United States, from 2015-2016 and University of Chicago, United States, from 2016-2017 where he acquired expertise in the management of complex arrhythmias and cardiac implantable electronic devices. He also received his accreditation from the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) as a Certified Electrophysiology Specialist – Adult Cardiology (CEPS-AC) in 2016. His research interests during this time included electrocardiographic predictors of sudden cardiac death, ultra-high-density mapping to delineate atrionodal connections, substrates correlating with critical isthmuses in ventricular tachycardia, and device algorithms for early detection of lead dislodgements.
Prior to joining The Heart and Vascular Centre, Dr Chua was a Senior Consultant at National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) where he anchored the Electrophysiology service at Sengkang General Hospital (NHCS@SKH) and was instrumental in setting up the Specialist Outpatient Clinic at NHCS@SKH. He also established several key clinical programs at NHCS including cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF), fluoroscopy-reduction ablation techniques and conduction system pacing.
Dr Chua was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School where he played an active role in training and mentoring medical students, medical officers and trainee cardiologists. For his significant contributions to public healthcare and education, Dr Chua was awarded the Singapore Health Quality Service Star Award in 2020.
Dr Chua is a fellow at major local and international cardiovascular societies including the Academy of Medicine Singapore (AMS), American College of Cardiology (ACC), European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and has been committed in organizing and speaking in major conferences, public forums and engagements with physicians from all specialities to improve accessibility and level of care to patients.
