Dr Joshua Loh is the Medical Director at Capital Heart Centre. He is an experienced Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist. Education and training. Dr Joshua Loh graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was conferred the Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from NUS and membership of the Royal College of Physicians, UK. He completed his specialist training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at National University Hospital.
Dr Loh was awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award and completed two years of advanced fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology and Research at the MedStar Washington Hospital Centre, DC, USA. He trained with pioneers in the field and gained extensive experience in complex procedures using the latest technology while appraising latest research evidence.
Clinical expertise
Before his private practice, Dr Joshua Loh spent almost two decades in public service. He was Senior Consultant Cardiologist at the National University Heart Centre, and Visiting Consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Dr Loh is highly experienced in using the latest technologies and procedures to treat complex coronary artery disease – from coronary physiology and imaging, calcified vessel treatment with atherectomy and lithotripsy, to the use of latest generation drug coated balloons, bioresorbable and drug eluting stents.
He performed over 5000 coronary procedures and pioneered the use of invasive Percutaneous Pulmonary Thrombectomy, starting the service in National University Hospital.
Dr Loh is also a Research lead investigator in international clinical trials with more than 80 scientific publications in renowned medical journals related to percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty), acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) and evaluating new technologies in angioplasty (stenting). He is regularly invited to present in international scientific meetings.
Medical teaching
Beyond his clinical work, Dr Loh is also passionate about medical education and holds the appointment of Assistant Professor, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He conducts clinical teaching to medical students and doctors undergoing internal medical and cardiology training, and is an examiner in the final MBBS examination for graduating medical students held by NUS. He trained many specialist doctors from Singapore and abroad in Interventional Cardiology and is a key opinion leader, regularly invited to chair, give lectures and to perform live case demonstrations in international cardiology meetings. Dr Loh is a regional case proctor for complex coronary interventions and has performed teaching cases in Asia.
