The B.1.617 variant is a COVID-19 variant that was first detected in India and was classified as a variant of concern by The World Health Organization (WHO) on 10 May 2021. Variants of concern show evidence of being more transmissible, causing more severe diseases or even reducing the effectiveness of treatments or vaccines. As a precaution, several vaccine makers are already developing booster shots to potentially target these COVID-19 variants.
